Tribute for John Willie Bays May 22, 1923 ~ December 18, 2020: Malone Funeral Home

John Willie Bays, 97, of Grayson passed away Friday, December 18, 2020.

John was born May 22, 1923, in Webbville, KY a son of the late Charles Younger and Ilah Sturgill Bays. John was an Army veteran of World War II and a retired coal miner and instructor of mine safety.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Sharlette Johnson Bays; brothers, Bruce Bays, Denver Bays, and Hubert Bays; and sister, Maude Bays. Survivors include a son, William Kenton Bays; grandson, Nicholas Bays; sister, Anna Lois Bays; step-daughter Diane (Billy) Smith, and step-sons Larry (Jean) Brown and Gary (Donna) Brown; and a step-grandson, Chris Hicks. A host of nieces, nephews, and other extended family also mourn his passing.


Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, the family has requested all services to be private. The family will hold a private graveside service at the East Carter Memory Gardens. Memorials may be sent to www.malonefuneralhome.com
